Saucy Meatballs

A HERITAGE WE CAN BE PROUD OF...

Meatballs are an Italian dish that was brought to America by Italian immigrants in the late 1800’s. Meatballs have been made with a variety of different meats, including beef, pork and chicken. They are usually served in well-known dishes such as Spaghetti Bolognese.

INGREDIENTS

Meatballs:

  • 1 Tbsp Oil

  • 750g Beef mince

  • 1 Egg, beaten

  • ½ cup Oats

  • 1 IMANA Brown Onion Flavoured Gravy


Sauce:

  • 2 tsp Oil 

  • 1 IMANA Tomato Flavoured Soup

  • 1 tsp Curry powder

  • ½ Green pepper, chopped

  • ½ Onion, chopped

  • 2 tsp Syrup

  • 1 tsp Vinegar

  • 2 cups Cold water

METHOD

Meatballs: 

  1. In a bowl, combine the mince, egg, oats and IMANA Brown Onion Flavoured Gravy powder and mix well.

  2. Roll the mixture into meatballs.

  3. In a pan, fry the meatballs on all sides.


Sauce: 

  1. In a pan, fry the green pepper, curry powder and onion.

  2. Add syrup, vinegar, IMANA Tomato Flavoured Soup powder and water. Cover and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes.

  3. Add meatballs and simmer for a further 10 minutes.

  4. Serve with rice, mash, pasta or phutu.
