A HERITAGE WE CAN BE PROUD OF...

The American English expression "fried chicken" was first recorded in the 1830s, and frequently appears in American cookbooks of the 1860s and 1870s. When it was introduced to the American South, fried chicken became a common staple. Try it with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce!

INGREDIENTS

  • Oil

  • 2kg Frozen chicken pieces

  • 1 cup Flour

  • ¼ tsp Black pepper

  • 2 tsp Baking powder

  • 1 cup Milk

  • 100ml Water

  • 1 Egg, beaten

  • Extra flour for coating the chicken

  • 1 IMANA Chicken Flavoured Super Stock Cube

  • 1 IMANA Cream Of Chicken Flavoured Soup

METHOD

  1. Thaw the chicken at room temperature.

  2. Place the defrosted chicken into a large pot and cover with water.

  3. Add the IMANA Chicken Flavoured Super Stock Cube to the pot.

  4. Bring to the boil and then simmer for about 20 - 25 minutes to par-cook the chicken. Remove the chicken from the water and allow to cool.

  5. In a large bowl, combine the IMANA Cream of Chicken Flavoured Soup powder, flour, pepper and baking powder. Add the milk, water and egg gradually to form the batter.

  6. Coat the chicken in flour and then dip into the batter.

  7. In a deep fryer or a large saucepan, heat the oil.

  8. Add 2 - 3 chicken pieces to the fryer at a time and fry for 20 minutes or until cooked through.

  9. Pat the fried chicken pieces on a paper towel before serving.
