Beef sishebo, a staple in Southern African cuisine, particularly in Botswana and South Africa, is a traditional stew made with beef and vegetables. The term "sishebo" refers to a hearty, simmered dish often cooked with onions, tomatoes, and a variety of spices. Originating from local culinary practices, it reflects the use of readily available ingredients to create a flavourful and nourishing meal, cherished for its rich taste and versatility.
INGREDIENTS
1 kg Beef, cubed
1 Tbsp OilÂ
3 Tbsp IMANA No.1 Rich Beef Flavour Soup
1 Large Onion, chopped
2 Sticks Celery, chopped
1 Green Pepper, chopped
1 tsp Mixed Herbs
1 x 410g Tin Chopped Tomatoes
2½ cups Water
1 cup Carrots, sliced
METHOD
In a large pot, brown the meat in oil.Â
Add the onion, celery and green pepper and fry for a few minutes.
Add the mixed herbs, tin of tomatoes and two cups of water. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 45 - 60 minutes until the meat is almost tender.
Add in the carrots and simmer until the vegetables and meat are tender.Â
Mix in the IMANA No.1 Rich Beef Flavour Soup with ½ cup water and stir until the sauce has thickened. Simmer for a further 5 minutes.Â
Best served with pap or mash.
